test instructions
Here are the instructions for taking the thyroid panel. It is important to read and follow these precisely in order to ensure accurate results.
This panel is great for those needing to follow up on their thyroid markers.
This is a blood panel that includes ALL the pertinent thyroid markers. Often only TSH is run and maybe free T3. However, in order to see where the dysfunction lies it is important to have all the markers.
The Hypothalamus is where levels of thyroid hormone is detected. It sends a message to the Pituitary to tell the Thyroid to make more (or it doesn’t and the Thyroid will make less) in the form of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH).
The Thyroid then makes T4 which is the inactive form of Thyroid hormones as well as a little T3, the active form. It then circulates in the blood throughout the body as a bound (not free) form until it is activated (usually in the liver) and then taken into the cells for use.
At any of these many steps, things can go wrong and by seeing all the markers we can not only see where things are going wrong, but also understand how to support the body better so that this process will be improved.
With this panel additionally, we will see if there is an autoimmune component that is affecting the entire process. This will greatly affect the recommendations and so is very important.
**We recommend starting with the Comprehensive Blood Panel to get the full thyroid panel as well as a look at many other systems.**
