Botox is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It’s the same toxin that causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning called botulism. Basically, the toxin paralyzes the muscles which creates the effect people are looking for. The effects only last for 3-4 months although it possibly can last longer as the facial muscles lose their strength.
I agree with you that I would not want to inject poison especially since it is not a permanent solution. However, I am not a dentist and do not know your case specifically. Maybe ask your dentist if there are any alternate solutions.
I personally have had good results with Rolfing/Structural Integration for muscular tightness particularly in the jaw area (I used to have TMJ but used this to help it). Basically, it is a really intense, therapeutic massage that is very specific in terms of the fascia work and body alignment. The results would depend on the skill of the practitioner though. I have a practitioner that I recommend in the Phoenix area although she is hard to get in to see – It was the referral I gave you for the shoulder work actually.
Good luck with getting that resolved!
